The drive is currently undergoing an extensive construction and revitalization project that will transform the heart of Wilton Manors. One of the primary goals is to make The Drive a safer and more pedestrian friendly boulevard. The unfortunate facts are that over the last several years we’ve seen traffic related injuries and even fatalities. We’re putting The Drive on what experts call a “Road Diet” – reducing traffic flow from 4 lanes to 2 – but at the same time incorporating turn lanes and bike lanes. Research shows that getting turning cars and bicyclists out of the flow of traffic not only greatly reduces the chances of an accident but ultimately improves traffic flow. Crosswalks will be shorter and spaced more evenly and lanes will narrow encouraging drivers to slow down.
The new design will ultimately improve traffic flow, widen pedestrian walkways and add new urban landscape. So why are we doing this? One of the primary goals is to make The Drive a safer and more pedestrian friendly boulevard.
Wider sidewalks with cafe spaces for outdoor dining
Landscaping with shade trees and unique south Florida vegetation
Pedestrian friendly crosswalks and new bike lanes
During the construction process all of the Drive’s businesses will be open so I encourage you to please support you favorite places along The Drive and even try out some new ones. Many of the establishments will be offering special deals when the construction is outside their door. Stay tuned to parties and special events coming to Wilton Drive!
There’s an exciting NEW Drive coming soon –
But don’t wait to enjoy all that
